Millionaire John Willis is warned by Dr. Harry S. Blair, a psychiatrist, that his fiancée Nancy, whom Blair had previously married, is mentally unstable. Blair then tells a story about how artist Norman Clyde had previously accused Nancy of causing an innocent man's wrongful execution. Clyde fell in love with Nancy after she modeled for his painting, which he showcased at a party hosted by millionaire Andrew Bonner. Later that night, Bonner was found dead, and his wife's necklace was missing. Nancy and Clyde were both questioned, but it was Bonner's valet who was eventually convicted and sentenced to death. Clyde suspected Nancy, but she denied any involvement and left for Florida. Blair defended Nancy to Clyde but invited him to his house, where Nancy denied any wrongdoing. Years later, Blair and Nancy moved to England and Nancy became an ambulance driver during World War II. However, Blair suspected her of stealing Lady Wyndham's jewel but was unable to prove anything until a bomb destroyed their flat and revealed a cache of stolen jewels. Blair suffered a nervous breakdown, leading to his divorce from Nancy. Shortly before their wedding, John's mother gave Nancy the same locket that Nancy had stolen as a child, causing her to collapse in guilt and be taken away to an institution. 展开全部
