The movie depicts Robert Tucker's life in sepia tones, with a narrative that jumps between three distinct periods. Firstly, he is an elderly man in a nursing home during Christmas, close to death. Secondly, he is in middle age, looking after his happy yet ailing mother. Lastly, he is a young boy in Catholic school, practicing his faith and receiving the sacraments amid the singing of a children's choir. In his middle age, he reminisces about his past relationships and his mother's cremation while perusing a scrapbook of photographs featuring muscular men.
